Therapy for Grief & Loss: You may be grieving without realising it.
Sometimes people don’t know they are grieving. Yet, they have the feeling that something is not quite right in their life.
Maybe you are experiencing something similar, where the world seems bleak and life seems dull. There is a persistent experience of emptiness or meaninglessness. A lot of the time, when people experience these symptoms, they try to distract themselves from these unsettling emotions, perhaps by succumbing to socially accepted addiction, like becoming a workaholic or worse, by starting to drink or gamble.
And by distracting themselves and ignoring these feelings, they are subconsciously hoping they’ll go away. But although you may not be able to understand why you’re feeling this way, it could be that you’re grieving about the loss of someone or something.
Grief & loss are not solely for people who have lost a loved one. Perhaps you have lost a job, a relationship has broken down, you have lost touch with your family members, or you have moved country. Perhaps you are facing the loss of your previous lifestyle. You can lose anything in your past, and it might have an impact. You can even lose imagined or dreamt of future, unrealized dream of sports career or parenthood. There may have been no death involved, but our reactions, feelings, and defenses against the devastation are similar.
